Net metering is an electricity billing mechanism that allows consumers who generate some or all of their own electricity to use that electricity anytime, instead of when it is generated.
Net billing or net metering works on a simple, consumers of electricity who have installed solar energy systems and can generate more than their level of power consumption may send the excess electric power generated back towards the electric grid for reasonable credit. It facilitates the supply of electricity in two ways: inwards from the grid and outwards to the grid from the consumer’s electricity generation unit.
Since 2015, NEPRA’s net metering regulations have enabled consumers to access the facility with a three-phase connection, ranging from 3kW to 1MW. Net metering offers substantial advantages, enhancing power generation, financial returns, and solar investments.
Consumers can use their solar panels or other renewable energy systems.
In case the power supply system is loaded with more electrical energy than what the user uses, the excess is returned to the grid network.
The electricity service provider at times takes a record of net energy ready and usable and the amount of energy consumed or sold in the specified billing period.
